How Artificial Limbs Change Lives: A Look Inside Our ALC

At the Kiwanis Artificial Limb Centre (ALC), we don’t just provide prosthetics — we help restore independence, dignity, and hope to those who need it most.

Each limb fitted at our facility is more than a piece of equipment. It’s a step toward self-reliance. It’s a child walking to school, a parent returning to work, a grandparent regaining mobility. Our mission is simple: to ensure that every person living with limb loss has access to the care and support they deserve — regardless of their financial background.

🌍 The Impact of an Artificial Limb

Losing a limb can be emotionally and physically devastating. Daily tasks become challenges, and confidence often fades. An artificial limb can be life-changing, offering:

  • 🧍‍♂️ Mobility and Functionality
Whether it’s a leg, foot, or hand, prosthetics restore essential movement.
  • 🧠 Mental and Emotional Well-being
With regained independence comes improved self-esteem and mental health.
  • 🧑‍🎓 Access to Education and Work
Children return to school. Adults return to the workforce.

At Kiwanis ALC, we’ve seen first-hand the transformation that occurs — not just physically, but emotionally.

🏥 Inside the Kiwanis Artificial Limb Centre

Our facility is staffed with experienced prosthetists, physiotherapists, and technicians who custom-build each limb according to the needs and anatomy of the patient. Here’s a look at our process:

  1. Assessment & Counseling
Patients and families are given consultations and psychological support.
  2. Measurement & Molding
A precise mold of the limb is taken for a custom fit.
  3. Fabrication & Fitting
Our in-house team crafts the limb using durable, lightweight materials.
  4. Training & Rehabilitation
We guide patients through walking practice, balancing, and functional use.

The best part? We provide this service free of cost to those in need.

🙌 Real People, Real Stories

“Within three days, they made a calliper for my sister. I have never seen a center like this before. It gave her freedom, and gave us hope.”
— Dr. Faridullah, Afghanistan

Every testimonial is a reminder of why we do what we do.
