Cerebral Palsy (CP) Center
Kiwanis, Cerebral Palsy Centre, established at Kiwanis Bhawan, which provides care and treatment for individuals affected by Cerebral Palsy (CP). It is a non-progressive Neurological disorder which affect movements, speech, posture and other basic functions. CP is caused by brain and nervous system damage, sustained before birth, during labour or shortly after child birth. Depending upon the area, and the extent of the damage, symptoms may include spasms, ticks, gait abnormalities, seizures and poor muscle tone. Eye sight, hearing, speech and intellect may also be affected. Most of the causes of CP do not have specific curative treatments. However, children suffering with CP present many medical problems that can be treated / prevented. The initial stage of treatment involves examination by interdisciplinary team of doctors’ e.g Paediatrician, Neurologist, Psychologist, Orthopedic Surgeon, Speech Therapist, and Occupational Therapist.
